Great Grey Owl

From Canada, He was visiting the Great Yorkshire Show this year.  This one was moulting so the rest of him was'nt so tidy; the yellow eyes usually denote dusk & dawn hunters, orange eyes daytime & dark to black looking eyes nightime, not a hard & fast rule just a guide.

A few Owl Facts:-  Eyeballs tend to be Cylindrical rather than spherical like ours, as a consequence they can't roll their eyes, but more than compensate for this by having very mobile necks which have twice as many vertebra i.e. 14 to our 7 , much keener sight of course & retinas tend towards more rods than cones so less colour vision more monochrome -increased definition-  oh & three eyelids so to speak.

Won't go on anymore but lets just say they are high end cameras to our compacts  ;-) :-)
